Sioux City, IA - The men’s golf team participated in the conference tournament this past weekend up in Sioux City, IA. The Trojans finished sixth place as a team and held the top individual finish overall as Philippe Guidi was crowned the conference champion.
Guidi started the second round five shots back of the leader but was able to finish strong becoming the first HLGU golfer to win the individual conference title and qualify for the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship.
“It was quite an amazing finish for Philippe,” commented Coach Michael Brookshire. “He finished birdie, birdie, par, eagle for four under on his last four holes to win the tournament."
Although Guidi played well the rest of the Trojans struggled with the weather conditions throughout the tournament.
“We played in very tough conditions,” stated Coach Brookshire. “It’s hard to play golf in 40 mile per hour winds. It was a tough course and we had tough conditions, but the guys didn’t give up and they had good attitudes through out. They played as well as they could.”
The Trojans finished with an overall team score of 666 points to finish sixth as a team. Guidi’s top score of 154 (82, 72) on the 72 par course led the way for the Trojans. Lucas Morande finished the tournament tied for 10th place with a score of 162 (83, 79) while teammate Marco Torrente finished tied for 27th after shooting a 172 (85, 87) for the tournament. Matthew Brennan rounded out the scoring for the Trojans as he finished tied for 37th after shooting a 178 (93, 85).
Guidi will have a break until May 24 when he will participate in the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship held in Silvis, IL.
