Joshua Gregory
Third-Grade Teacher at A.D. Stowell School in the Hannibal, MO School District
Bachelor of Science in Education: Elementary Education

Please describe your position and what you enjoy most about it.
I teach third-grade in the school I completed my student teaching at. A.D. Stowell is an amazing school meeting the needs of students on the Southside of Hannibal. We are a large family and love our students. Each teacher has a passion for our students. I love the environment and all of the amazing things we have accomplished as a school.
What aspects of your HLGU experience helped you prepare for your career?
The teacher program at HLGU is vigorous. I have spoken to friends who have not spent extended time in a classroom until their student teaching. I had many opportunities to observe, assist, and teach in classrooms before I had my students teaching. Also, there were high expectations in all of my classes that held me to a higher standard to make me a better educator.
What have you enjoyed most about your career?
I love working with the kids in Hannibal. I can truly make a difference here and love it. I am not close to my family but I love the influence and opportunities that I have with my current position.
Have you or are you currently continuing your education? If so, please list the institution(s) and degree(s) you earned or are working toward.
I have completed my Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University in Utah.
What HLGU professors played a part in your success? How did your relationship with faculty help you succeed?
Courtney Janes was one of the best educators I have ever had. She was always positive and supportive of my work and decision to be an educator. Her classes were an excellent fountain of knowledge as well as great in-classroom experience.

What are some of your favorite HLGU memories?
Intramural sports were amazing. Getting to play random sports I normally do not get to play competitively is super fun. College basketball is something I miss almost every day. There is nothing comparable to getting to play your favorite sports with some friends at a high level.
