What Will You Study?

Criminal justice majors learn the fundamentals about the criminal justice system, criminology, crime prevention, and security and forensics. This prepares students for a career in law enforcement and serves as a foundation upon which to pursue graduate school in preparation for working at higher level government agencies.

During their senior year, criminal justice majors participate in planned and supervised programs of observation, study, and work internships with selected criminal justice and social services agencies. These ongoing partnerships with local agencies advance our goal of “Knowledge for Service,” preparing the Christian criminal justice professional for personal and career effectiveness.

Program Objectives

After completion of the program, the criminal justice major will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the police component of the criminal justice system, including: police history, patrol and operations, management and personnel, ethics, rules of arrest and detention, and the law enforcement profession.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the courts component of the criminal justice system, including: constitutional law, sentencing, the criminal system and the judicial process, defenses, and criminal and civil law.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the correctional component of the criminal justice system, including: criminology, prison systems, jails, juvenile delinquency, prison life, and crime and correctional trends.
