Assistant Professor of nursing

Dr. Shawn Zembles brings 30 years of nursing experience, including nearly 20 years in advanced practice as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. He holds national certifications in emergency, trauma, critical care, and nursing professional development. He earned his DNP and MSN from the University of Missouri–Kansas City and his BSN from Graceland University.

With two decades of teaching experience, Dr. Zembles is dedicated to mentoring future nurses and connecting academic learning with real-world clinical practice. He has served in both civilian and military healthcare systems, with expertise in emergency preparedness, trauma care, early sepsis recognition, and chronic disease management.

He was the team lead for the Afghan Nurse Training Initiative and contributed to the Military Medic to BSN Transition Program. His work has also supported efforts to improve emergency department efficiency, patient flow, and clinical outcomes. In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Dr. Zembles is active as a quality improvement specialist and project manager.
