MSE + Certification
- Praxis Missouri Content Assessment
  Graduate-level candidates seeking certification are required to take the Praxis Missouri Content Assessment in the appropriate certification area within the first semester of coursework at HLGU. Passage of the Praxis is required prior to applying for student teaching.
- Teacher Education Program Admission Requirements
  Graduate-level candidates seeking certification should begin the process of gaining admission within the first semester of coursework at HLGU. Admission to the Teacher Education program is required before candidates are allowed to enroll in a second semester of graduate coursework.
- Apply for Student Teaching
  The deadlines to apply are February 15th (for Fall placement) and September 15th (for Spring placement).

Dear Members of the Teacher Education Committee,

I am writing to request admittance into the Teacher Education Program at Hannibal-LaGrange University. My name is Margie Smith, and I am a twenty-year-old from Hannibal, Missouri. I attended Mark Twain Elementary and then Hannibal Middle School and Hannibal High School. While I was a high school student, I was a member of FCCLA (Future Career Community Leaders of America), Student Council, and FTA (Future Teachers Association). As a member of FTA, I was able to go into various elementary classrooms to help with math groups. It was during these experiences I decided that I wanted to become an elementary teacher.

I have been a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since I was eight years old. In my high school years, I went on several mission trips, helped with Bible School, and assisted with AWANA. No matter what activities I helped with, I always enjoyed working with children. I know that my skills and background can help me to contribute in a meaningful way to the field of education.

Throughout my years of working with children, I have definitely learned something about myself. I want each child to believe in himself or herself. We all learn in different ways, and no two people are the same. I want a classroom of my own where each child feels like a part of a positive community of learners. Each student needs to feel valued so that he or she can reach their full potential.

In conclusion, I am sure that my background, passion for children, and dedication to learning make me a strong candidate for the Teacher Education Program. I am excited about the opportunity to further develop my teaching skills and to contribute in a meaningful way to the field of education. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to joining the Teacher Education Program at HLGU.
