About the Trojan Trek
(originally known as Trojan Turkey Trek)
HLGU’s Trojan Trek is a fundraising event that helps defray the costs of mission trips for HLGU students. The event features both a 5k and 10k run/walk combination road/cross country race that weaves through the Hannibal-LaGrange University campus. The course takes runners through campus, along a couple of city streets, and on a beautiful nature trail. The 5k and 10k runs are competitive; the walks are not. The Kids’ Fun Run will take place at 9:30 am. Each participant in the fun run receives a ribbon.
Started in 2006, by HLGU alum Marisa Brown-Ellison ‘98, and originally named Trojan Turkey Trek, this fundraiser quickly became an annual event that everyone looked forward to participating in for the University. The first “TTT” 5k run/walk and Kids Fun Run was a part of the school’s fall homecoming but now is its own special campus event that is held on the first Saturday in November. In 2014 the TTT was upgraded to professional timing and in 2015 the name officially changed to Trojan Trek. The option of a 10k race has also been added.
HLGU has contracted with Fleet Feet to be the official timer of this year’s Trojan Trek. Participants will once again enjoy multi-location race course timing, upbeat pre- and post-race music, and Zumba warm-up.
Each year HLGU students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends from across the country (and sometimes world) participate in this annual event. Awards are given in a variety of categories including: overall winners for both men and women, overall alumni (both men and women), overall masters (both men and women).
Each semester break, fall, Christmas, spring, and summer, HLGU offers its students opportunities to participate in missions or service projects locally, nationally, and internationally. The money raised from the Trojan Trek helps to offset student fundraising endeavors.
