SUMMARY:Spiritual Emphasis Days
DESCRIPTION:Hannibal-LaGrange University’s annual campus renewal\, Spiritual Emphasis Days\, will be held September 4-5\, in the Parker Theatre of the Roland Fine Arts Center at 10 am each day. Captain Jose Rondon\, chaplain at Fort Leonard Wood\, will be the featured speaker. These events are free and open to the public. \n“We are thrilled to have Captain Rondon come to campus for our Spiritual Emphasis Days\,” says HLGU President Dr. Anthony Allen. “I have known Jose for almost 30 years and am proud of the way God is using him to reach many young men and women for Christ. He also brings an international perspective and he’ll relate well with our students\, faculty\, and staff.” \nCapt. Rondon has served at Fort Leonard Wood since early 2018. Originally from Venezuela\, he came to faith in Christ in the 1990s through the witness of an International Mission Board missionary. Later\, he immigrated to South Carolina\, where he attended North Greenville University and then worked on master’s and doctoral degrees at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He became a United States Citizen in 2010 and later joined the military as a U.S. Army Chaplain. \nBeginning March 11\, 2018\, Rondon and his fellow chaplains witnessed what some have called a “spiritual awakening” among soldiers and trainees on the base. Last March\, Rondon reported more than 200 professions of faith. That number rose to 4\,750 professions by December 2018 – according to the last report received by The Pathway. \nRondon called Southern Baptists to pray for this movement of God to continue on the Army base. “God’s wonders\,” he said in a Facebook post\, “will continue to be seen through the prayers of His people.”

SUMMARY:Suicide Awareness & Prevention Sessions with Kevin Hines
DESCRIPTION:Kevin Hines is a mental health advocate\, global speaker\, best-selling author\, documentary filmmaker and entrepreneur who reaches audiences around the world with his story of an unlikely survival and his strong will to live. \nTwo years after Hines was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 19\, he attempted to take his own life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Hines is one of only 34 — less than one percent — to survive the fall\, and he is the only Golden Gate Bridge jump survivor who is actively spreading his message around the globe about living mentally healthy. \nEvent coordinators are tri-state residents\, Amanda Hays and Jessica Baker\, who are committed to providing insight and assistance about suicide awareness and prevention. Hays was diagnosed with severe postpartum depression which led her to plan her own suicide. She went through treatment and therapy to overcome those struggles. \nHays’ goal is to use her story to help others in the area with similar suicide tendencies. “I don’t think there’s any person anywhere that isn’t somehow effected by mental health or suicide. We have to realize these are life and death situations\,” Hays said. Jessica Baker with Preferred Family Healthcare said she hopes this event helps people in the community ask for help when they need it. \nKevin Hines shares his story of hope and celebration of life Monday\, October 28\, in the Roland Fine Arts Center on the campus of Hannibal-LaGrange University\, 2800 Palmyra Road\, Hannibal. \nThere are three free sessions: \n\n9am – Noon\n1:30pm – 4:30pm (this session is full/registration is closed)\n6 – 9pm\n\nSeating is limited.
