SUMMARY:Open House for Pulliam Hall and Crouch Hall
DESCRIPTION:Hannibal-LaGrange University invites the community to step into the past and future of student living at its upcoming Open House event. On Thursday\, April 4\, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm\, alumni\, prospective students\, families\, and community members are invited to explore the rich history of two of the university’s most iconic dormitories\, Pulliam Hall and Crouch Hall\, before they are renovated later this spring. \nDuring the open house\, visitors will have the opportunity to tour both dormitories\, guided by knowledgeable staff who will highlight key features and answer questions about the renovation. Alumni and community members will have the chance to appreciate the university’s commitment to providing exceptional residential experiences. \nHLGU is anticipating an increase in enrollment this fall and these residences are needed to accommodate new students this fall and camps this summer. \nRenovations to Crouch Hall include new HVAC\, exterior brick work\, ceiling\, carpet\, paint\, and plaster repair. Pulliam Hall’s first floor will be completely renovated including new flooring\, ceilings\, upgraded electrical\, replacement of the entry doors\, and refinishing the antique woodwork. \nThe university needs to raise $500\,000 by mid-April 2024 for these projects. HLGU has partnered with a volunteer building group\, Campers on Mission\, to provide skilled labor for this project. The group will be on campus at the end of April to complete these renovations. HLGU is responsible for providing the materials that the team will need to complete the renovation process. \n“We invite you to be a vital part of this transformative journey\,” said Dr. Ray Carty Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Hannibal-LaGrange University. “Your support can directly impact the lives of current and future students\, ensuring that they have a safe\, comfortable\, and spiritually inspiring place to call home during their time at Hannibal-LaGrange University.” \nThe Open House event will take place on Thursday\, April 4\, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served\, and all attendees will have the chance to enter a drawing for exclusive HLGU merchandise. \nFor more information about the Open House or to learn about the “Bring Back the Legacy” renovation campaign\, please email giving@hlg.edu or call (573) 629-3124.

SUMMARY:Arbor Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Hannibal-LaGrange University will hold an Arbor Day Celebration on Friday\, April 19 at 2 pm near the Roland Library on HLGU’s campus. HLGU’s Arbor Day Celebration is open to the public. \nTwo alumni\, Ruth Ihrig Foreman ’49 and Dorothy Sisson ’58\, will be honored by the planting of two river birch trees on campus. These women supported Hannibal-LaGrange during their lifetime through financial gifts\, by referring students to campus\, and through prayer. They are great examples of the rich legacy of HLGU. \nAs its name suggests\, the river birch naturally grows along riverbanks. But as a landscape tree\, it can be planted almost anywhere in the U.S. The species is valued for its relatively rapid growth\, tolerance of wetness and some drought\, unique curling bark\, spreading limbs\, brilliant yellow fall color\, and relative resistance to birch borer. \nPlanting trees on HLGU’s campus has been a longtime tradition as a Tree Campus Higher Education institution. \nTree Campus Higher Education is a national program created in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and to engage staff and students in conservation goals. HLGU achieved this title by meeting recognition standards including student service-learning projects.
