SUMMARY:Amanda Henry Author Reading & Book Signing Event
DESCRIPTION:Hannibal-LaGrange University professor and alum Amanda Henry has released her second book in the Tokens of Rynar series\, The Light of the White Gem. HLGU is excited to host Ms. Henry at her reading and signing event on Tuesday\, September 26 at 7 p.m. in the Student Center on campus. This event is open to the public. \nReaders can return to the adventure from the first book with The Light of the White Gem. The story races onward as Inesca seeks out the knight mentioned by her father on his deathbed. More mystery and surprises await Inesca and her friends. The chaos that marked the racing season spreads to other parts of Rynar as repeated attacks from mysterious assailants threaten the lords and their subjects. Discover how Inesca and other characters will face these challenges in The Light of the White Gem. \nThe Light of the White Gem may be purchased online at Amazon or through the publisher\, WestBow Press. Learn more at the author’s website\, sharingtokens.com. The website will also provide details about unique offers\, such as limited-edition pens. In addition\, the author has posted fictional excerpts of short letters on her website to help readers remember events from the first book. These letters provide new insights into the characters in this series. \nAmanda Henry is an associate professor of English at Hannibal-LaGrange University. In her spare time\, she loves to read\, write\, and spend time with family. She wishes to honor God with the interests and skills given to her.

SUMMARY:NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines Talk
DESCRIPTION:Hannibal-LaGrange University will welcome Riley Gaines as a guest speaker on January 31\, 2024 at 6:00 pm in the Roland Fine Arts Center.\n\nThe event is free and open to the public\, however tickets do need to be secured through www.hlg.edu/free-society. The tickets are free except there is a handling fee through the ticket website. For group tickets\, call 573.629.3260 or email FreeSociety@hlg.edu.\n\nThis event is part of the Free Society Speaker Series that HLGU hosts in partnership with the Moorman Foundation.\n\nRiley Gaines is a leader defending women’s single-sex spaces\, advocating for equality and fairness\, and standing up for women’s safety\, privacy\, and equal opportunities.\n\nGaines graduated from the University of Kentucky\, where she was a 12x All-American swimmer.\n\nRiley has made waves for speaking out after tying UPenn’s Lia Thomas\, a biological male swimmer on the women’s team\, at the 2022 NCAA Division 1 Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships.\n\nAfter Riley directly experienced competing against a man in women’s sports\, being forced without warning or consent to undress before the fully intact male\, and subjected to discrimination by the NCAA\, she became one of the most powerful voices to speak out against the injustice\, challenging the rules of the NCAA\, USA Swimming\, International Olympic Committee (IOC)\, and other governing bodies.\n\nRiley now works for the leading women’s organization making real and lasting change\, legally defining ‘woman\,’ protecting Title IX\, and defending women’s rights to single-sex spaces and equal opportunities. She has traveled the country speaking and has testified before the U.S. Senate\, U.S. House\, and countless state legislatures.\n\n“HLGU is grateful and excited for the opportunity to host Riley Gaines on campus as part of our Free Society Speaker Series. Her commitment and quest to save women’s sports from the growing threat of individuals and entities within our culture who are determined to deconstruct gender is admirable.” says Dr. Eric Turner\, Christian Studies Division Chair at HLGU.\n\nGaines currently works for the Riley Gaines Foundation through the Leadership Institute which empowers and equips individuals to stand up for what is right. Gaines also speaks on laws concerning Title IX to keep biological women in women’s sports. She has given her testimony before the U.S. Senate\, U.S. House\, and multiple state legislatures.\n\n“We believe that her cause is shared and accentuated by HLGU’s core value of promoting a biblical worldview. For us\, this event is an honor to host but also an important one for communicating and contributing our voice to this critical cause.” says Turner.\n\nFor more information about this event and the Free Society Speaker Series at HLGU\, email FreeSociety@hlg.edu or call 573.629.3260.

SUMMARY:Canceled - Free Society event featuring David Nekrutman
DESCRIPTION:This event has been canceled due to the speaker returning to Israel early. \nHLGU’s next Free Society event will feature David Nekrutman on Wednesday\, March 20 at 3 pm in The Loft inside the Foster Student Center. David will be speaking and answering questions on what is going on in Israel. This event is free and open to the public. \nDavid Nekrutman is the Executive Director for The Isaiah Projects\, a ministry dedicated to creating resources that  empowers Christians to discover the Hebraic roots of their faith as well as provide humanitarian aid to single Ethiopian mothers and Christian Arab families living in Israel.
