Jess Corkern

Field Experience Coordinator

After retiring from 36 years of teaching, of which were 16 in the Hannibal School District, and with experience in all elementary grades and elementary music, Jess Corkern became the field experience coordinator for HLGU in 2016. She now has the opportunity to work with principals and teachers by placing HLGU education students in their schools for valuable field experiences. “My years of experience give me a unique insight to share with our future teachers during their placements,” says Corkern.

“To be successful as a teacher, it is important to see how God can use you in that profession. Seeing teaching as a calling rather than a job will make all the difference to you! It is your ministry! Realizing that will help you navigate the extreme demands that will be placed on you throughout your career.”

Corkern and her family attend Calvary Baptist Church in Hannibal where she works with children in Calvary’s Family Quest program. Corkern and her husband are also involved in the church through music. Together they have two daughters and seven grandchildren, which keep them busy with visits and family time.
