Shane has written two books\, 9 Common Lies Christians Believe: And Why God’s Truth is Infinitely Better and Calling Out the Called: Discipling Those Called to Ministry Leadership. \n“We are grateful to have Shane Pruitt on campus during the HLGU Spiritual Emphasis Week\,” said Director of Campus Ministry and \n \nMissions Titus Vester. “God has used Shane to reach over 100\,000 people each year with the good news of Jesus. DESCRIPTION:Hannibal-LaGrange University will celebrate Constitution Day with Missouri House Representative Dr. Doug Richey\, on Monday\, September 19 at 11 a.m. in the Roland Fine Arts Center. \nThis Constitution Day event is in partnership with the Moorman Foundation as part of the Free Society Speaker Series at HLGU. Hannibal-LaGrange University has long been an advocate of the principles of a free and virtuous society. \n“I am both excited and honored to have Doug Richey speak on campus for our Constitution Day event\,” says Dr. Eric Turner\, Chair of Arts and Humanities Division at HLGU. “Doug is a perfect fit as he embodies both a pastor’s heart and a sharp\, scholarly mind with respect to the political landscape in Missouri.” \nDr. Doug Richey was elected to his first two-year term in the Missouri House of Representatives in 2018. In addition to serving as a State Representative\, he is also a law enforcement chaplain\, adjunct professor\, and the senior pastor at Pisgah Baptist Church. Richey earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Central Missouri and then went on to earn three master’s degrees and a doctorate from the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He spent eight years in the Missouri Army National Guard as a combat engineer and has served as president for several alumni organizations and local boards. \n“I am eagerly anticipating the connections Doug will make for our students\, staff\, and faculty between our Christian faith and faithful stewardship of our constitutional responsibilities\,” Turner says. \nFor more information about Constitution Day at HLGU\, email FreeSociety@hlg.edu. Running time for these productions will range from 40- 60 minutes with no intermission. \nRiders to the Sea is a play written by Irish Literary Renaissance playwright John Millington Synge. It was first performed on 25 February 1904 at the Molesworth Hall\, Dublin\, by the Irish National Theater Society with Helen Laird playing Maurya. A one-act tragedy\, the play is set in the Aran Islands\, Inishmaan\, and like all of Synge’s plays it is noted for capturing the poetic dialogue of rural Ireland. The plot is based not on the traditional conflict of human wills but on the hopeless struggle of a people against the impersonal but relentless cruelty of the sea. \nBackground – In 1897\, J. M. Synge was encouraged by his friend and colleague William Butler Yeats to visit the Aran Islands. He went on to spend the summers from 1898 to 1903 there. While on the Aran island of Inishmaan\, Synge heard the story of a man from Inishmaan whose body washed up on the shore of an island of County Donegal\, which inspired Riders to the Sea. \nRiders to the Sea is written in the Hiberno-English dialect of the Aran Islands. Synge’s use of the native Irish language is part of the Irish Literary Revival\, a period when Irish literature looked to encourage pride and nationalism in Ireland.

DESCRIPTION:Hannibal-LaGrange University welcomes the community to the annual free music department Christmas concert on Thursday\, December 5 at 7 pm in the Roland Fine Arts Center. \nThe concert will feature the HLGU Symphony Orchestra\, HLGU Concert Choir\, Clarion Ensemble\, HLGU’s The New Edition\, and over 100 choristers from Hannibal\, Palmyra\, Troy\, and St. Louis all under the direction of John Francis\, Assistant Professor of Music and Worship. \nA beautiful selection of music has been prepared. Songs include “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen\,” “How Great Our Joy\,” “O Holy Night\,” and a massed choir singing of Messiah’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” \nFor more information about the music department or Christmas concert\, contact Jane Griffen\, music department chair at 573-629-3165\, or jgriffen@hlg.edu.
