Dedication Held for HLGU Classroom

Hannibal-LaGrange University held a classroom dedication at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, March 23, to honor Bonnie Ingram, her family, and her late husband, Donald.

Mrs. Ingram, a long-time supporter of the University, recently gave a sizable donation toward the Carroll Science Center. The family business, Ingram Plumbing Inc. of Bowling Green, did the plumbing for the science center during its construction.

“I have really enjoyed being at Hannibal-LaGrange and all these years partnering with them,” said Mrs. Ingram. “It’s been a good experience.”

Dr. Allen, HLGU President, remarked “It’s days like this that remind us that all of us are standing on the shoulders of those who have made great sacrifices for us…This institution has been in existence since 1858, and I think about all those people when I read the history who made a great sacrifice to bring us to where we are today, so we are indeed grateful.”

Other speakers at the dedication included Anne Riggs, director of the Craigmiles School of Nursing, and Dr. Don Colborn, professor of biology.

Speaking directly to the Ingram family, Riggs said, “The Carroll Science Center, and this classroom in particular, is a result of the generous support and dedication to higher education that you and your family has shown to us, and we appreciate that. Classrooms such as this do provide our students with state-of-the-art instruction that prepares them for their chosen vocation.”

Following Riggs, Dr. Colborn observed, “We’re almost through our first year in this facility and I can tell you that everything about this facility has brought our program to a great, much better, improved level…Hannibal-LaGrange is not about buildings, but buildings are certainly an important component of what we need in order to educate students the way we want to educate.”

The 40,000 square foot, 7 million dollar Carroll Science Center houses a 58-seat computer lab/classroom, five science labs, two nursing skills labs, two nursing lab hospital rooms, a nursing library, nine multimedia classrooms, a spacious lobby, five student lounges, two conference rooms, two group study rooms, two individual study rooms, and 20 faculty offices.
