HLGU Offering Credit for Mark Twain Teacher Workshop

Hannibal-LaGrange University is partnering with the Mark Twain Museum to offer graduate credit hours for the upcoming Mark Twain Teacher Workshop, held July 18-22 in Hannibal.

This year, the workshop will focus on the books Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finnwith an emphasis on using Mark Twain in the classroom. Three graduate credit hours will be given the course title Topical Studies in Education: Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn with Common Core. HLGU’s application fee will be waived. The cost to receive the graduate credit hours will be $300.

In addition to classroom sessions and discussions, the workshop will also provide participants with opportunities to tour local sites such as the Mark Twain Cave, take a cruise on the Mark Twain Riverboat, enjoy local restaurants, take a trip to Mark Twain’s birthplace in Florida, MO, and more.

Event faculty include Dr. Julie Albee, HLGU Professor of Education; Henry Sweets, executive director of the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum; and Dr. Larry Howe, Roosevelt University Professor of English and Film Studies; along with history presenter and Mark Twain Actor Jim Waddell.

Workshop registration is $150, and priority will be given to first- and second-time attenders. Participants must register for and attend the workshop to receive graduate credit.
