HLGU Celebrates 53rd Practical Nursing Pinning

The fourth annual pinning and graduation ceremony honoring the students of the Hannibal-Lagrange University Practical Nursing Program was held on August 11, 2016 at the Roland Fine Arts Center on the University campus. A class of 26 students received their pins after a 52 week course of study in the program.

The HLGU PN Program was established in 1961 and was sponsored by the Hannibal Public School System until its relocation and change of sponsorship to HLGU in August 2012. This graduating class represents the fifty-third for this program.

The graduates are: Heather Ashby, ShaKari Cartmill, April Scott, and Brittanica Young of Quincy, IL; Lindsay Brennan of Keokuk, IA; Whitney Culp, Kelsey Eger, Nicole Leake, Ashley O’Brien, Jessica Price, Kylie Smith, Kalisha Tate, and Shalomi Williams of Hannibal, MO; Janet Hall-McKay of Pekin, IL; Dianna Hummel of Palmyra, MO; Lindsay Jordan of Shelbina, MO; Kristina Kimber and Amber Pellillo of Pittsfield, IL; Kai McCullar of St. Louis, MO; Heather McNeese of Eolia, MO; Candace Orange of Durham, MO; Misty Peery of Tulsa, OK; Deborah Purol and Sheena Stone of Monroe City, MO; Alicia Sigle of Chicago, IL; and Morgan Walker of New Canton, IL.

Recipients of the special awards were: April Scott, General Nursing Proficiency Award; Jessica Price, Clinical Nursing Award and Brandie Kearns Memorial Nursing Personality Award; Jessica Price, Lindsay Jordan and Misty Peery were awarded the Beth Haven Community LPN Scholarship; and Lindsay Jordan received the Hannibal Clinic Award. Scholastic Achievement Awards were presented to the top 20% of the class and were received by Janet Hall-McKay, Valedictorian; Kylie Smith, Salutatorian; Sheena Stone, third ranking student; Amber Pellillo, fourth ranking student; and Candace Orange, fifth ranking student. Amber Pellillo was recognized with the Best Attendance Award. Awards were made possible by the Northeast Missouri Medical Society, Hannibal Regional Hospital, the family and friends of Brandie Kearns, Mennonite Home Association, Hannibal Clinic, Maple Lawn Nursing Home, and the HLGU-PN Class of 2015.

The guest speaker for the evening was Mrs. Karmon Kindhart, RN, BSN, director of clinical services at Hannibal Regional Medical Group. Special music for the ceremony was presented by the Hannibal Regional Heartbeats.

HLGU PN faculty includes Anne Riggs, MSN, RN, director of the Craigmiles School of Nursing; Gwenda Pollard, MSN-Ed, RN-BC, coordinator/instructor; Instructors Karry Weston, MSN-Ed, RN and Lynn Ogle, BSN, RN; and Adjunct Instructors Anne Wilson, BSN, RN; Laura Davis-Maas, MSN, RN; Amanda St. Juliana MSN-Ed, RN; Amelia Seiler, MSN, RN; Janet Stuckman, MSN, RN; Michelle Wallace MSN, RN; and Kimi Yuchs MA(N), RN, NE-BC.

The Hannibal-LaGrange University Practical Nursing Program is a fifty-two week certificate program located on the University campus. Classes start each year in late August and the program is affiliated with Beth Haven Nursing Home, Hannibal Clinic, Hannibal Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Hannibal Regional Hospital, James E. Cary Cancer Center, Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Marion County Health Department, Mark Twain Behavioral Health, NECAC Family Planning and Ralls County Health Department.
