Hannibal-LaGrange University’s Board of Trustees visited campus for their annual spring meeting March 17 and 18.
This year’s spring meeting saw some reformatting in an effort to inform the trustees and engage them more fully. After attending a special Carroll Missions chapel service with Dr. Keith Eitel of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary on Thursday morning, the trustees visited classes and had lunch with students.
Thursday afternoon, President Anthony Allen gave a state of the University report updating trustees on all the work that has happened since the most recent trustees meeting in October 2015.
That evening, a special banquet was held for the trustees. Entertainment included a selection of musical numbers from the University’s upcoming theatre production, Fiddler on the Roof. Those in attendance were also able to hear student testimonies from Caleb Mosely and Ashley Collier. Additionally, Drs. Robert and Martha Bergen were presented with the Trustees Award for Excellence in Service, a well-deserved award to celebrate their excellence in teaching and commitment to the University over the past 30 years.
On Friday, trustees once again enjoyed breakfast and lunch with students. During the morning meeting sessions, trustee committees representing different departments of the University met and presented reports.
The final afternoon meeting consisted of reports from various departments, proposed budget discussion and approval, approving a faculty rank advancement, and approving the creation of the HLGU Board of Visitors, a development board comprised of donors and boosters for the purpose of raising awareness of and involvement in the University.
“I am very pleased with what the board accomplished for the University during the spring meeting. We have some wonderful opportunities before us, and I’m grateful for the vision that the Lord has given us. Together we are strengthening every area of the University’s work, and providing high-quality Christian education that integrates faith and learning,” said Dr. Allen. “We’ve got a lot to do to get ready to do all the things I feel God has for us, but He’s given us great initiative, He’s given us a wonderful staff and faculty, He’s given us a very supportive and helpful board of trustees as we continue to direct this institution to where God is leading us.”
