Phi Beta Lambda Students Benefit from United Way

HLGU student-led club Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) has teamed together with The United Way to establish a stronger social media presence for the nonprofit organization.

PBL is the collegiate branch of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Typically, HLGU students in this club benefit from opportunities to volunteer for on-campus projects and speeches by business professionals. This year, PBL faculty sponsor Jerry Allen contacted The United Way to search for a practical project for PBL members.

The United Way of the Mark Twain Area is seeking to reach out to the younger generations, including college students. Through this partnership, PBL members will gain valuable business experience and The United Way will gain a platform for reaching a different audience.

PBL member Robert Ortega stepped up as the team leader for this project. “Since this is my first year in PBL, I wanted to definitely do something that made an impact on it,” he said. “Not just that I was in the club, but that I actually did something in it and that I took a risk.”

The project is just starting, but there is a wealth of possibilities for this partnership. Ortega commented, “Right now, it’s slow…but I really think that once we start getting these postings up, I feel like it will be a really good relationship with them.”
