Betty Anderson retires after 21 years

After celebrating her 21st year of service to Hannibal-LaGrange University, Mrs. Betty Anderson, Vice President for Business and Finance, officially retired on December 31, 2021. Mrs. Anderson was diagnosed with lymphoma last summer and was unable to return to work. She continues to consult as needed with the current HLGU administration on a volunteer basis during this time of transition.

Mrs. Anderson came to Hannibal-LaGrange University from Oklahoma in 2000 as accounting manager. She is a 2005 HLGU graduate and earned her MSM in 2010 and her MBA in 2014 from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.

“Betty has made an impact on so many through the years! Her influence goes far beyond that of simply being a coworker or administrator,” said Michelle Gibson, a 2010 HLGU graduate and former staff member. “She took the time to invest in the lives of those around her by being a mentor, encourager and pointing others to Christ. I have personally seen her servant heart minister to those in her care countless times. Including when it was inconvenient, hard, and costly. That is a mark of a person of great character! My time at HLGU as both a student and an employee was enriched because of my relationship with Betty! I count myself as blessed to have Betty in my life!”

On the announcement of her retirement, Mrs. Anderson stated, “Working at Hannibal-LaGrange University and the people that I have had the pleasure of working with over the last 21 years has been one of the greatest joys of my life. I have become a Trojan for life and will always bleed scarlet and blue. Thank you so much for your support all these years.”

Mrs. Anderson and her husband, Jeff, who is Senior Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, have been married for over 45 years. They have three children and eight grandchildren. She loves spending time with her family and fellowshipping with her church family.

At church, Mrs. Anderson is known for serving coffee, punch or Betty’s famous sweet tea at wedding and baby showers as she wants to make everyone feel special during these big life events. Along with hosting in the building, she has opened her home up to many church members and college students throughout the years for Sunday lunch and other meals. She has been a member of the church choir and taught vacation bible school as well as other forms of church service.

Hannibal-LaGrange University is a four-year Christian university fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The institution prides itself in its traditional and nontraditional educational experience in a distinctively Christian environment.
