What Will You Study?

Psychology majors learn the fundamentals of abnormal psychology, crisis intervention, developmental psychology, casework methods, physiological psychology, and research methods. These foundational principles prepare students for a career in psychology. It can also serve as a stepping-stone to graduate studies.

Program Objectives

After completion of the program, the Psychology with a Social Services emphasis major will be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of issues related to social services, such as the historical development of the fields, human systems, professional identity, how to assess-serve-evaluate potential clients, intervention techniques, communication in services, ethical service to clients and the community, and self-assessment strategies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of constructing a client file.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply major concepts and to work in the social services field in a vocational/agency setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts in all core course requirements.
