About Hannibal-LaGrange University
Hannibal-LaGrange University is a Christ centered university where students are known, encouraged, and prepared to impact the world. HLGU blends excellent academics with a vibrant campus community and a deep commitment to biblical truth.

For more than 165 years, students have come to HLGU to discover their calling, develop their gifts, and grow in character. Today, HLGU continues that mission through strong academic programs, a thriving Honors Program for high achieving students, and a gifted, well educated faculty who invest personally in each student’s success. Our programs are known for excellence. Our education department is recognized by the state for producing some of Missouri’s best prepared teachers, and our media communications students have earned national awards for their creative and technical achievements. HLGU graduates have gone on to serve as legislators, physicians, attorneys, judges, school superintendents, business leaders, and professionals across a wide range of fields.

Life at HLGU is warm, active, and intentional. Students enjoy a close knit campus where friendships form easily through athletics, fine arts, clubs, campus ministry, discipleship groups, and service opportunities in the Hannibal community. As a Christ centered university affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention and grounded in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, Hannibal-LaGrange University fosters spiritual growth through chapel, Bible studies, mentoring relationships, mission trips, and the daily integration of a Christian worldview across every academic discipline.

Our campus is located in historic Hannibal, Mark Twain’s hometown, and is surrounded by festivals, arts, riverfront events, and a supportive community that embraces our students. Students also enjoy on campus amenities including a scenic nature trail, a beautiful waterfall that reflects the wonder of God’s creation, a sand volleyball court, and a nine hole frisbee golf course that encourage recreation, connection, and time outdoors.

Each year, Hannibal-LaGrange University welcomes nationally known speakers to campus, including Dr. Ben Carson, former Governor Mike Huckabee, Senator Josh Hawley, and women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines. These events give students meaningful opportunities to hear from influential voices and engage in thoughtful conversation.

At HLGU, you are not just earning a degree. You are joining a community that will challenge you, support you, and help you become who you are called to be.
