Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU) is pleased to announce the hiring of Jacob Borgmeyer as Head Wrestling Coach, marking a significant step in the university’s plan to reinstate its wrestling program.
Borgmeyer will begin building the program immediately, focusing on recruiting during the 2026–27 academic year, with the goal of returning HLGU wrestling to competition in Fall 2027.
“We are excited to welcome Jacob to HLGU as we reintroduce wrestling to our campus,” said Clay Biggs, Director of Athletics. “His proven ability to build successful programs, invest in student-athletes, and embrace our Christ-centered mission makes him an outstanding choice to lead this effort.”
Borgmeyer currently serves as a teacher and coach at Hannibal Public Schools, where he has led one of the most successful wrestling programs in the state. In 2024, he was named MSHSAA Coach of the Year after guiding his team to a Class 3 State Championship—the first in program history.
A graduate of Lindenwood University, Borgmeyer holds a degree in Elementary Education and has built a reputation for strong leadership, program development, and student-athlete mentorship.
“I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead the wrestling program at Hannibal-LaGrange University,” said Borgmeyer. “I respect HLGU’s commitment to faith, education, and athletics as it creates a unique environment to invest in the lives of student-athletes. I look forward to building a program that reflects those values and competes at a high level.”
The reinstatement of wrestling is part of HLGU’s broader strategic effort to enhance enrollment and expand athletic opportunities while maintaining a strong cultural and mission fit on campus.
“Wrestling has a rich tradition and strong participation base in our region,” added Biggs. “We believe this program will not only be competitive but will also play a key role in growing enrollment and strengthening campus life.”
Borgmeyer and HLGU Athletics will begin recruiting immediately, with additional announcements regarding facilities, schedule, and roster development to follow.
