John Ferguson

Adjunct Instructor of Strings

John Ferguson taught elementary and junior high orchestra for seven years. After a short time in the field of accounting, he was called to serve as a minster of music and youth education and did so for 35 years. Following retirement from serving on a church staff position, he has since worked part-time teaching stringed instruments at HLGU and he co-directs the Hannibal Area String Orchestra.

“My advice to new or prospective students is to do your best, realizing that God is in control, and to seek God’s will for your life in all that you do,” says Ferguson.

When he’s not teaching, Ferguson enjoys spending time with family; serving at church as a deacon, a praise team member, and a choir member; playing as a member of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra; traveling; and photography. While teaching at HLGU, he enjoys working in a Christian atmosphere where he has the support of the administration, staff, faculty, and the opportunity to work with students who are willing to learn and make an effort to apply themselves.
