Alyssa Pyne

Music Department Chair
Assistant Professor of Music
University Accompanist

Alyssa Pyne joined the HLGU faculty in 2020 and serves as assistant professor of music and is the music department chair as well as the University accompanist. Prior to coming to HLGU, she gained experience in teaching, administrative work, and playing as a staff pianist through serving at Clarks Summit University, Houghton College, and the School of Music in Houghton.

“I was drawn to teach at HLGU specifically because of their commitment to the Word of God as the ultimate truth for our lives, as well as their desire to integrate Christian faith and learning,” says Pyne. “My higher education journey has been at Christian institutions, and it is difficult to describe the impact that my professors had on my growth and development not only academically, but also spiritually, professionally, and personally. I hope to be that catalyst in the lives of my students to encourage growth not only in the knowledge and performance of music, but in the grace and knowledge of Christ. I am so excited that God brought me to HLGU!”

Pyne also has experience collaborating in performance with both vocalists and instrumentalists in a variety of genres. She says she enjoys working with a wide-array of musicians to craft unique musical experiences in addition to learning alongside them. “My time studying music instilled in me a deep love for the complexities and inherent beauty of music, and I so enjoy sharing that with audiences in the hall and students in my classroom!”

When she’s not teaching and making music, Pyne enjoys being an aunt to her seven nieces and nephews, looking for treasures at thrift stores, taking walks and hikes outside, baking, crafting, and spending time with friends and family.
