HLGU Students Volunteer at HPD Children’s Halloween Party

by Rebecca Sneed

HLGU Criminal Justice students helped the Hannibal Police Department at their 35th annual children’s Halloween party on Saturday, October 31, at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.

The students assisted by directing several of the various booths at the party including arts and crafts, a maze, golf putting, and a bean bag toss. The free event offered children a safe and fun environment to enjoy some Halloween fun.

Cpl. Jonathan Borgemeyer of the HPD was thrilled with the students’ involvement and believed that the event was better because of their participation.

HLGU Criminal Justice Professor Bruce Capp commented, “I am always happy when our students willingly provide community service and are involved with the citizens of Northeast Missouri. However, I have never been prouder to see future criminal justice professionals interact with these children. All of the students worked hard to make it a memorable event for the children. Some were even seen guiding children in wheelchairs through the attractions so that they could experience everything that the other children enjoyed.”

The HLGU students who participated include Reihiti Sommers, Jordan Dehart, Katie Bohler, Rory Clay, BryAnn Miller, Ethan Kling, Angela Jimenez, Iwan Smith, and Drew Morecraft.
