HLGU Celebrates 2024 Commencement Ceremony

On Saturday morning of May 4, Hannibal-LaGrange University’s 2024 graduates were honored at HLGU’s commencement ceremony. It was there that each graduate walked the stage in their ceremonial regalia to shake the hand of HLGU President Dr. Robert Matz and receive their diploma.

This year’s commencement address was given by Dr. Julie Albee, Vice President of Academic Administration at Hannibal-LaGrange University. Following the address, graduates received their diplomas, and Dr. Don Colborn, Division Chair of Natural Science and Mathematics, presented the graduates to Dr. Matz, who conferred their degrees.

“It has been my joy and privilege to work at Hannibal-LaGrange University for the past 21 years.  When God led our family to Hannibal, I never imagined what exciting adventures were to come.  When you ‘Stop and Consider, Slowly Proceed, and then Go For it!’ God opens amazing doors of opportunity to serve Him.  HLGU is a Christ-centered university with a biblical worldview that permeates its classes, chapel, activities, sports, etc.  It is my prayer that God will continue to bless and grow HLGU for His glory in the days, years, decades, and centuries ahead.  We serve an amazing God!” said Dr. Albee.

At the ceremony, Brennan Nick, and Ashlyn Vermeer, HLGU’s Who’s Who Among Seniors, led their fellow graduates in the graduate pledge and in giving a standing ovation to thank their families and friends for their support.

Two employees were honored for their outstanding service to Hannibal-LaGrange University. Dr. Melanie Smith, Division Chair of Education, received the Parkway Distinguished Professor Award. Amanda Kohl, a 2023 graduate of HLGU and current Guest Experience Coordinator, received the Immanuel Staff Member of the Year Award.
