Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU) has recently been awarded a grant of $7000 from the USPOULTRY Foundation for recruitment for the HLGU Agribusiness program. The US POULTRY Foundation was created to provide funds to train and educate students for the advancement of the poultry industry.
The HLGU Agribusiness program is a concentration of the Business Administration degree and has a small demonstration farm on campus. The demonstration farm includes turkeys and chickens which are the beginnings of an egg production operation. There is also a small grain operation with plans to add feeder cattle in the future. In addition to their classroom work, HLGU Agribusiness students receive hands-on experience with the day-to-day operation of the demonstration farm.
This grant provided by the Industry Education Recruitment Fund of the USPOULTRY Foundation will provide funds for the development of a video, flyers, and promotional items. These will be used at student recruitment events as well as high school and FFA visits to promote the HLGU Agribusiness program and generate interest in preparing for a career in the poultry industry.
“HLGU is pleased to receive this grant award from the USPOULTRY Foundation and will use these funds to market Agribusiness careers,” stated Agribusiness Instructor, Will Stuflick. He went on to say, “In the tristate region, rural agriculture communities are facing a workforce shortage due to declining numbers of high school students being exposed to agriculture career opportunities. HLGU is committed to assisting our local workforce partners to train and recruit high school students into the Agribusiness career pathway.”
HLGU’s Agribusiness program equips students with the managerial skills necessary to succeed in twenty-first century family farms and agricultural businesses. For more information on the agribusiness program please contact admissions@hlg.edu or call 573-629-3264.
