Online Advisor (On Campus Position)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Online Advisor is responsible to the Vice President of Academic Administration. The position can be part-time or full-time (20 or 40 hours per week, 12 months per year). If full-time it offers benefits. This person will register and help execute all academic advisement of online and graduate students.  This position may require travel (occasionally overnight).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Follow up with new and current students through phone (call & text), e-mail and mailings
  2. Advise, evaluate, and facilitate onboarding of new and existing students
  3. Work with Registrar and Admissions to track paperwork and update our Student Information System regarding student data.
  4. Work with Financial Aid Office to help facilitate discussion regarding financial aid.
  5. Be inventive with ideas can help return students.
  6. Meet enrollment goals established by supervisory team.
  7. Track students’ success through academic program of study, providing support as needed.

DEPARTMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS:

In addition to working with personnel in the Online Studies Department, the person will work closely with the Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Academic offices for the coordination of the advising of all online and graduate students.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong Christian Commitment and active member of SBC church or church of similar practice.
  • Must have an understanding of and commitment to the work of Christian Higher Education.
  • Ability to positively represent the online and all university departments.
  • Must able to clearly articulate all admissions guidelines of the various programs in the Adult and Graduate Studies Division, with an overview knowledge of all HLGU programs.
  • Must have superior communication skills and be comfortable speaking with people in person and on the phone.  Much of this position involves consistent, meaningful contact with people via phone, email, text and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to learn new software and applications as needed for the position.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Light lifting may be required.
  • Must have values consistent with the mission and purpose of Hannibal-LaGrange University.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING:

  • Master’s degree preferred.  Bachelor’s degree acceptable.
  • Prior experience in university work preferred.
  • Prior recruiting, sales, business, or education experience is preferred.
  • Experience in maintaining accurate records and use of a database and spreadsheet are preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook is required.
