Please describe your position and what you enjoy most about it.

Teaching in my hometown brings me so much joy! I love working with my students and building trusting relationships through my work. Sharing my love of literature with my students is an extra perk!

What aspects of your HLGU experience helped you prepare for your career?

Relationships are a big part of the way I teach, and I do believe that my professors at HLGU had a big hand in giving me a wonderful example of what this looks like. I felt valued at HLGU and I hope to give the same experience to my students.

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

My favorite part of my career is building trusting relationships with my students. I love to watch them succeed and cheer them on as they accomplish their goals.

Have you or are you currently continuing your education? If so, please list the institution(s) and degree(s) you earned or are working toward.

I received my Master’s degree in Administration from HLGU and am currently looking into furthering my education with a doctoral program in Educational Leadership. I earned my Administration Certification in January 2021 and served as a summer school administrator in June 2021.

What HLGU professors played a part in your success? How did your relationship with faculty help you succeed?

I feel like I had several professors at HLGU play a big role in my success and they are still celebrating with me as I continue on the career path that they helped prepare me for. A special shout out goes to to Mrs. Brookshire, Ms. Henry, Mrs. Burt, Mrs. Wallace, and Mrs. Loyd. These ladies are amazing and supportive professors and I am thankful for each of them.

Do you have any tips to share with students interested in this field?

In education, it is always important to remember to learn. You should never feel that you mastered the art of teaching. Education is a growing and changing machine, there is always something new to learn and bring back to your classroom. Remember that your students have different backgrounds than you- take the time to get to know them.

What are some of your favorite HLGU memories?

I loved being in the theatre department. Plays were always a special time- rehearsing and meeting new friends were some of my favorite things. Many laughs were shared and these people became more than friends, they became family….literally.
