Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education

Please describe your position and what you enjoy most about it.

I serve as a Development Officer and Women’s Auxiliary Coordinator at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. I connect women, alumnae, and churches with the seminary through philanthropic opportunities, planned giving, and prayer support. I also speak and write for women’s ministry groups and the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention Women’s Team. I love gathering and connecting women together to invest in the next generation of women, whether that be through fundraising for scholarships for women to continue their education or mentoring and discipleship through ministry.

What aspects of your HLGU experience helped you prepare for your career?

My time at HLGU helped me form and articulate a strong biblical worldview from which I lead, create, and work everyday. Likewise, the scholarship of the Bible and Christian Education faculty combined with the practical opportunities to intern in my field as a student were invaluable. It was during my HLGU internship as a student that I really developed the skills I had learned in the classroom and the passion for ministry which God was calling me. They also challenged me to think intensively and critically all the while pursuing character and integrity and investing in the community I work and live in.

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

I love connecting with our ministry partners and sharing how much their investments have made a meaningful and significant impact in the lives of our students. I get a front row seat in watching our strong and gifted female students and alumnae honor those investments and excel academically, spiritually, and professionally.

Have you or are you currently continuing your education? If so, please list the institution(s) and degree(s) you earned or are working toward.

I graduated with a Master of Divinity in Women’s Studies in 2013 from Southwestern Seminary and have plans to pursue a doctorate.

How did HLGU shape you as a person?

The faculty and staff not only shepherded my mind, but also my heart. They recognized my calling to ministry and nurtured my leadership skills. Dr. Martha Bergen, my academic advisor, challenged me to pursue my dreams and further my education and Sara Keck, Dean of Women, discipled and mentored me during my time as a student and beyond. I will always be grateful for their investment in me.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

I’ve been able to see my writings published on several platforms.

Please list any scholarships, honors, or awards you received as an undergraduate or graduate.

What are some of your favorite HLGU memories?

I have so many fond memories–Trojan Idol, galas on the Mark Twain Riverboat, sharing life at Java Jive, traveling and hosting Disciple-Now weekends are just a few! Plus, I really enjoyed the historical downtown and beautiful scenery while living in Hannibal, Missouri.

HLGU’s motto is “knowledge for service.” What roles have these values played in your life?

God used this motto to solidify my decision to choose HLGU. I knew I was called to ministry and I wanted to attend a Christ-centered institution where education was intertwined with developing students spiritually and professionally for service. Upon graduation, I left with a strong theological foundation and passion to serve God with excellence.
