Rebekah Schwartz Chamberlin ’13

Missionary with Africa Inland Mission in Tanzania

Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts

Please describe your position and what you enjoy most about it.

My family is serving alongside the local church on the coast of Tanzania to reach the unreached Coastal Swahili people with the gospel. We believe God has called us here for a purpose and we are excited to be a part of His plan in bringing the lost into His kingdom.

What aspects of your HLGU experience helped you prepare for your career?

I appreciated that HLGU has a Biblical foundation and encouraged their students to pursue Christ.

Please share a specific example from your career or life when the skills you gained at HLGU helped you most.

Being on the soccer team, helped me to work better with others and to also work with other ethnicities. We had several girls from other countries on the team and I was able to learn about their values and cultures. This helped to expand my worldview and now plays a vital part as I serve in a cross-cultural setting.

Do you have any tips to share with students interested in this field?

If God has placed any desire or calling in your heart to do missions, He will prepare the way for you to do it. Just trust in Him and the call He has given you and say Yes.

What is one thing you know now that you wish you’d known when you started in the field?

The process to the mission field can be a long one but it is a learning and growing season of life.
