Brice Baumgardner, a longtime member of the HLGU community, has been named Vice President of Enrollment Management. With more than 20 years of service to the university, Brice has demonstrated consistent leadership, a deep commitment to student success, and a passion for Christ-centered education. He began his career at HLGU in the Admissions Office, later served as Director of Financial Aid for over a decade, and most recently held the position of Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management.
Throughout his tenure, Brice has played a vital role in student engagement, enrollment strategy, and institutional advancement. He has also served in statewide and regional leadership roles, including President of the Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid Personnel and recipient of multiple industry awards for service and leadership.
“Brice has been a faithful part of the HLGU family for over two decades, serving in a variety of roles with wisdom, dedication, and a heart for students,” said university president, Dr. Robert Matz. “He brings deep institutional knowledge and a passion for Christian higher education that will serve us well as we look to the future.”
During my time at HLGU I was involved in Praise Song, Golf, intramural sports, Phi Beta Delta, student newspaper, and served as resident advisor in Crouch Hall. HLGU gave me the opportunity to grow academically, spiritually, and socially. I enjoy helping students accomplish the same!

My wife and I moved here from Washington State. We heard how unapologetic about Jesus this university was from my brother, Coach Babcock. I knew that we had to be a part of the community. Being able to point students to a place where I know they will not only get a good education but also get to know Jesus better has been such an unbelievable blessing.

HLGU was my first independent life experience. During my academic career here, I was a Residential Advisor, Student Ambassador, and served on The New Edition ministry team. Having these opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, and students truly is what grew my love for the university. Hannibal-LaGrange gave me an education, life experience, growth in my faith, and the grounds in which I met my now husband. Truly, I owe this school a lot. I am so honored to work for them and am proud to have this chance to give back!
The story of how God brought me to HLGU is absolutely amazing, ask me about it, but the story of how He used this place to change me is even better! God provided me opportunities to grow both in my faith and as a man through serving as a Residential Advisor, Student Ambassador, Core Group leader and multiple other ministry opportunities. I received an excellent education from awesome professors and made friendships that will last the rest of my life. I love this opportunity that God has blessed me with to share with prospective students about how God can move in their lives at HLGU and give back to the place that has given me so much!

Dear Members of the Teacher Education Committee,
I am writing to request admittance into the Teacher Education Program at Hannibal-LaGrange University. My name is Margie Smith, and I am a twenty-year-old from Hannibal, Missouri. I attended Mark Twain Elementary and then Hannibal Middle School and Hannibal High School. While I was a high school student, I was a member of FCCLA (Future Career Community Leaders of America), Student Council, and FTA (Future Teachers Association). As a member of FTA, I was able to go into various elementary classrooms to help with math groups. It was during these experiences I decided that I wanted to become an elementary teacher.
I have been a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since I was eight years old. In my high school years, I went on several mission trips, helped with Bible School, and assisted with AWANA. No matter what activities I helped with, I always enjoyed working with children. I know that my skills and background can help me to contribute in a meaningful way to the field of education.
Throughout my years of working with children, I have definitely learned something about myself. I want each child to believe in himself or herself. We all learn in different ways, and no two people are the same. I want a classroom of my own where each child feels like a part of a positive community of learners. Each student needs to feel valued so that he or she can reach their full potential.
In conclusion, I am sure that my background, passion for children, and dedication to learning make me a strong candidate for the Teacher Education Program. I am excited about the opportunity to further develop my teaching skills and to contribute in a meaningful way to the field of education. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to joining the Teacher Education Program at HLGU.
Sincerely,
Margie Smith
