The Missouri Baptist Promise

For most Missouri Baptist families earning $60,000 or less, starting Fall 2027.

Our commitment back to you

For generations, Missouri Baptist churches have stood behind HLGU. The Missouri Baptist Promise is our thank-you: a Christ-centered education your family can afford.

EVERY MISSOURI BAPTIST
STUDENT

At least half off tuition

The Southern Baptist Heritage award covers at least 50% of tuition, $13,235 in 2027–28.

MAXIMUM PELL GRANT STUDENTS

Zero tuition

After your federal and state grants, the Promise covers the rest of your tuition. Partial Pell students receive a portion of the tuition.

Does it cover room and board?

No. The Promise covers tuition only. For other costs, like room and board, our financial aid team will help you explore payment options.

What if we earn a bit more than $60,000?

File the FAFSA anyway. Eligibility comes from the Pell Grant, and partial Pell students receive a partial Promise.

Can I add my merit scholarship?

Heritage and the Promise are their own package. You automatically receive whichever is larger: merit, or Heritage and Promise.

Does it renew?

Yes, each year you remain eligible, file the FAFSA by February 1 and enroll full-time.

The fine print: The Promise covers tuition only; fees, room and board are not included. Eligibility is based on the federal Pell Grant, determined by the FAFSA; maximum Pell students receive the full Promise and partial Pell students a prorated award. The FAFSA must be filed by February 1 each year, and the student's pastor confirms church membership. Students must live in campus housing unless they live within 45 miles of HLGU, per the Student Handbook residency policy. For new, full-time undergraduates in on-campus programs beginning Fall 2027; renewed each year the student remains eligible. Must be a Missouri resident. Terms may change for future entering classes.
