Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU) offers a program which allows pre-service teachers who have substantial prior learning experiences and/or valid work experiences to seek credit for up to 30 semester hours via Portfolio evaluation. While each individual’s background is unique and will be considered on a case-by-case basis, it is important that certain guidelines be followed to maintain a rigorous level of academic integrity within the program. The HLGU Pathways Program aligns with RSMo168.400 and DESE Rule 5 CSR20-400.330. View the full document by clicking here. Programs having pre-service teacher education students who have been employed in public or accredited nonpublic schools for at least 2 years as a paraprofessional, teacher assistant, long-term substitute teacher, or teacher of record shall accept such experiences in lieu of the conventional coursework. Name(Required) First Last Today's Date(Required) Month Day Year HLGU Email(Required) I understand and agree to the following:Students may petition for credit for student teaching via Portfolio evaluation, only if they have significant, valid work experience in public or accredited nonpublic schools in the appropriate grade level(s) and certification area(s).(Required) I agree I recognize that non-instructional assignments, such as bus duty, lunchroom duty, recess duty, before and after school duty, etc., cannot be counted toward any time in the Portfolio evaluation process.(Required) I agree Candidates must be formally admitted into the Hannibal-LaGrange University Teacher Education program and approved for student teaching before final approval for participation in the Portfolio Evaluation will occur. In rare instances, if the degree-seeking undergraduate candidate lacks admittance into the Teacher Education program due to an insufficient ETS Para Pro exam score, then that individual may be considered but would only be granted course credit once a sufficient Para Pro score has been achieved and formal admittance has been granted. Undergraduates must take the Praxis Missouri Content Assessment before the credit for prior learning will be awarded. In rare instances, if the degree-seeking graduate candidate lacks a passing Praxis score, then that individual may be considered but would not be granted course credit until a sufficient Praxis score has been achieved and formal admittance has been granted. The Teacher Education application is required for the Pathways Program. The link is provided at the end of this application.(Required) I agree CPL credit will not be awarded until you have been formally admitted to the Teacher Education Program and completed the portfolio course(s).(Required) I agree If your employment status changes after the date of this CPL approved contract, it is your responsibility to notify the portfolio course instructor immediately to discuss any impact to your eligibility for CPL (i.e., if you change grade levels, school districts, etc). Any changes to your employment status may cause your eligibility for CPL to be null and void, and a new CPL contract may be required.(Required) I agree Students are still required to take and pass the Praxis Missouri Content Assessment in their certification area in order to receive state certification.(Required) I agree Students approved to petition for credit for Student Teaching are still responsible for achieving a passing composite score on the Missouri Educator Evaluation System (MEES). An HLGU Supervisor and the cooperating teacher in the school will be assigned to observe the candidate teaching in an appropriate classroom setting during his/her final semester to complete the required MEES evaluations. The cooperating, or mentor, teacher will complete two (2), and the HLG University Supervisor will complete five (5). These evaluations will be completed during the final semester.(Required) I agree A mandatory orientation will be held on Main Campuses prior to the start of the semester in which students will be completing the MEES (usually the first week in August for Fall semester completers and early January for Spring semester completers). Students beyond 50 miles from HLGU or Three Rivers may connect through Zoom. Attendance at the orientation is mandatory. Students will receive important information about the MEES and will be able to meet with their university supervisor at that time.(Required) I agree Student Teaching is not offered during the summer, so students who finish classes for certification during the summer need to register for the portfolio course during the Spring semester prior to finishing all coursework for certification. Students who finish all other classes for certification during the summer but miss registering for the student teaching portfolio course during the prior Spring semester will be required to complete the course in the fall to complete the MEES evaluation/assessment and additional Portfolio requirements.(Required) I agree Students receiving CPL credit for 15 weeks of student teaching must remain employed through the completion of the CPL/MEES evaluation/assessment. Successful completion of the CPL/MEES evaluation/assessment requires you to be engaged with PK-12 students in a classroom setting appropriate to the area for which HLGU will be recommending you for initial certification.(Required) I agree I recognize my account will be assessed a transcripting fee for the courses being petitioned. CPL Fees may be found in the HLGU Course Catalog for the appropriate academic year. The online catalog may be found here https://www.hlg.edu/academics/current-catalog/(Required) I agree Note that fees are subject to increase each academic year. Therefore, portfolios submitted for review will be subject to the fees for the concurrent academic year. Also, note that financial aid is only available if you are enrolled at least a half-time basis during the semesters in which you are enrolled in a portfolio course. Please consult with your Financial Aid Counselor for assistance in determining whether there might be any refund available to cover CPL charges after financial aid has been applied toward semester tuition and fees. Remember that CPL credit is awarded, and transcription fees will be applied to your account AFTER the portfolio has been submitted and evaluated.(Required) I agree I agree to be financially responsible for the charges incurred for any CPL credit I am awarded. I understand that the charges will be applied to my HLGU account immediately upon credit approval, and Financial Aid may not cover any or all of the charges incurred.(Required) I agree Which content area and grade-level are you seeking certification?(Required)The pre-service student’s experience as a paraprofessional, teacher assistant, long-term substitute teacher (in a consistent class within their content area), or teacher of record was concurrent with the student’s participation in the professional education program and in the same content area and grade range for which the student is seeking certification.
